Office Volunteer/Receptionist

General Job Description:     

 

It is frustrating to clients to call DenUM with a crisis… and be directed to voicemail. Please join us as a compassionate “first contact” for all those DenUM serves, and those who partner with us to do so. Please – lend a human voice to DenUM’s day-to-day communications!

Responsibilities:              

  1. Answer phone lines and direct calls as appropriate.
  2. Prepare orientation and referral materials for clients.
  3. Keep resources updated by periodically calling partner agencies to verify services.
  4. Assist with intakes as necessary.
  5. Work with staff and clients as necessary to maintain a safe DenUM environment for all.

Skills Required:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Good knowledge of computers helpful, especially word processing and internet searches.
  • Ability to communicate well with diverse populations.
  • Must demonstrate poise, compassion and non-judgment toward clients.
  • Must be able to understand, communicate, and uphold DenUM regulations.

Time Commitment:

 

2-4 hour commitments during open business hours:

M/T/Th/F 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., W/Sat. 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Schedules can be accommodated for weekly or monthly commitments.

DenUM’s Commitment:

  • A minimum of 4 hours of orientation covering emergency procedures, DenUM rules and program policies, resource management, and facility tour.
  • At least one hour of job shadowing and supervised training on direct service procedures.
  • Continuing education throughout the year.
  • A mentor program with experienced staff members is available to new volunteers.
