General job Description:     

The food pantry is constantly receiving donations that must be sorted and readied for distribution. Volunteers organize resources, keep order in public spaces, and assist clients with their needs.

Responsibilities:              

-  Sign-in at the volunteer log at the start of each shift.

-  Welcome clients and donors upon arrival.

-  Assist in carrying donations into building.

Organize and sort donations; keep donation areas clean and clear.

-  Package or display items for clients to access them. Monitor public areas for cleanliness and order; assist where necessary.

-  Help clients carry items out of DenUM lobby when unable to do so themselves.

-  Work with staff and clients as necessary to maintain a safe DenUM environment for all.

Skills Required:

-  Unsupervised volunteers must be at least 14 years old. (Parental consent required for independent volunteers under 18 years of age.)

-  Must possess the physical ability to carry, sort and stock food and/or clothing.

Time Commitment:

2-4 hour commitments during open business hours:

M/T/Th/F 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., W/Sat. 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Schedules can be accommodated for weekly, monthly, or project-based commitments.

DenUM’s Commitment:

-  A minimum of 4 hours of orientation covering emergency procedures, DenUM rules and program policies, resource management, and facility tour.

-  At least one hour of job shadowing and supervised training on direct service procedures.

-  Continuing education throughout the year.

-  A mentor program with experienced staff members is available to new volunteers.
